Why choosing matters more than you think
A barber course costs ৳18,000–45,000 and three to four months of your life. The wrong academy wastes both: oversized batches where nobody corrects your technique, theory with no chair time, a certificate no employer respects. Use this checklist on every academy you visit — including ours.
The 7-point checklist
1. Do instructors currently work chairs?
A teacher who cut hair yesterday teaches what clients ask for today. Ask for instructor names and where they work. Our instructors are working barbers and makeup artists — that is a hiring requirement here, not a bonus.
2. How many students per batch?
Above 20 per instructor, individual correction stops happening. We cap intakes at 12 seats — check the open intakes and do the math yourself.
3. Is the kit included?
A ৳30,000 fee plus a ৳20,000 compulsory kit is a ৳50,000 course. Our published fees include the full professional kit. Get any academy's answer in writing.
4. How much is supervised practice vs theory?
You learn barbering with clippers in hand, not in a lecture. Ask: how many hours per week on mannequins and live models? Our programs are hands-on from week one — theory exists to support practice, never replace it.
5. Is the certificate verifiable?
A printed certificate anyone could forge is decoration. Ours carry public verification codes — employers can confirm them at our verification page in seconds.
6. Is there placement support?
Training ends; earning begins. Ask what happens after graduation: employer introductions, chair-rental guidance, freelance pricing help. We provide all three.
7. Can you visit before paying?
Never pay an academy you have not stood inside. We are in Banasree, Dhaka — come watch a class, hold the clippers, talk to students. Then decide.
Red flags: walk away if you see these
- "Discount expires today" pressure tactics.
- No working barbers on staff — only career trainers.
- Batch sizes above 20 with a single instructor.
- Fee quoted without a straight answer on kit inclusion.
- No certificate, or one nobody can verify.
- No live class you are allowed to observe.
How our programs map to the checklist
| Program | Length | Fee (kit incl.) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic Barbering | 14 weeks | ৳45,000 | Complete beginners → professional |
| Fades & Tapers | 6 weeks | ৳22,000 | Working barbers adding fade mastery |
| Beard Sculpting | 4 weeks | ৳18,000 | Shave and beard services |
| Cosmetology Fundamentals | 16 weeks | ৳50,000 | Beauty-track beginners |
| Bridal & Editorial Makeup | 5 weeks | ৳28,000 | Makeup specialization + portfolio |
Day and evening cohorts run the same curriculum — pick around your job, not around quality. Start dates and seat counts are on the enrollment page; the Fall cohort is open now.

Questions to ask on your visit (take this list)
When you walk into any academy — ours included — ask these verbatim:
- "Can I watch a live class right now?" (No = hiding something.)
- "Who teaches fades, and where does he cut commercially?" (Names + shops.)
- "How many students share one instructor in a batch?" (Number, not adjectives.)
- "What exactly is in the kit, and is it included?" (Itemize it.)
- "How many hours per week will I personally hold clippers?" (Hours, not "plenty".)
- "Show me a graduate's certificate verification." (Watch them verify it live.)
- "What happens after I graduate — concretely?" (Names of placement partners, not promises.)
- "What is the refund policy in writing?" (Paper, not words.)
- "Can I speak to two current students alone?" (Unsupervised answers only.)
- "Why should I choose you over self-learning on YouTube?" (The answer reveals whether they understand their own value: supervised correction, which videos cannot give.)
Score each academy 1 point per satisfactory answer. Enroll only at 8+. We built this list to be fair — and we are confident how we score.
Day vs evening: an honest comparison
| Day cohort | Evening cohort | |
|---|---|---|
| Curriculum | Identical | Identical |
| Instructors | Same working barbers | Same working barbers |
| Kit | Same | Same |
| Pace | Slightly faster (fresher students) | Steady (after work/school) |
| Best for | Full-time students, career switchers | Job holders, university students |
| Shop observation | Visit working shops midday | Evening rush atmosphere |
Neither is "better." The wrong choice is the one you cannot sustain — a day cohort you keep missing because of work teaches nothing. Pick the schedule you will actually attend at 95%+.
What a good first week looks like
Set expectations correctly. A good academy's first week:
- Day 1: Tour, kit issue, grip and posture fundamentals, sanitation drill. No cutting.
- Days 2–3: Tool handling on mannequin heads — holding, sectioning, basic strokes. Awkward is normal.
- Days 4–5: First guided cuts on mannequins with instructor demo-then-do cycles. Slow, corrected constantly.
Red-flag first weeks: pure lectures with no tools in hand by day 3, being asked to cut paying clients in week one (exploitation, and it teaches panic not skill), or disorganized batch mixing where beginners and advanced students share one instructor's attention.
Reading reviews like a detective
Online reviews for training academies need interpretation:
- Five-star with specifics ("instructor Rahim corrected my fade line for 20 minutes") = trustworthy.
- Five-star generic ("very good academy") = low signal, possibly solicited.
- One-star about refunds/admin = read carefully; admin complaints differ from teaching complaints.
- No reviews at all = newest academies; visit extra carefully.
- Check dates — a burst of reviews in one week suggests a campaign, not organic satisfaction.
Better than reviews: alumni working in shops you can visit. Ask the academy for graduate placements nearby, then go look at their work with your own eyes. Haircuts do not lie.
Financing your course: practical options
৳45,000 is real money. Ways students manage it:
- Stack specializations — start with Beard Sculpting (৳18,000), earn from shave services, fund the next course. Slow but self-financing.
- Family framing — present the ROI math from our fees guide: payback in 2–3 months of the pay bump. Families fund what they understand.
- Time enrollment to demand — graduate into Eid or wedding season when shops hire; some students secure chair offers before finishing.
- Ask about arrangements — talk to us. We prefer a serious student on a plan over an empty seat, handled case by case at the academy.
The visit: what to observe in 30 minutes
Stand at the back of a live class and watch for:
- Is every student holding tools, or are half watching?
- Does the instructor correct individuals, or lecture the room?
- Are mannequins/clients real and plentiful, or shared 3-to-1?
- Is the floor clean and are tools being disinfected between uses?
- Do students look engaged or bored?
Thirty minutes of observation beats thirty reviews. Our door in Banasree is open — come see a class, then run this checklist on us. If we score 8+, enroll for the Fall cohort.
Program-by-program deep comparison
Full current lineup with honest fit guidance:
Classic Barbering — 14 weeks, ৳45,000. The complete professional path: sanitation, clipper mastery, scissor work, fades, shaves, consultation, live chair time, certificate. Choose this if you are starting from zero and want employment. It contains the substance of the shorter courses integrated properly — not just stacked.
Fades & Tapers — 6 weeks, ৳22,000. A specialization sniper: guard systems, blend mechanics, lineup design, speed building. Choose this if you already cut hair and lose young clients to better fades. Not a standalone beginner path.
Beard Sculpting — 4 weeks, ৳18,000. Shape design, hot-towel straight-razor shaves, lineups, beard care retail. Choose this for the fastest route to premium-priced services, or as a first affordable step before bigger courses.
Cosmetology Fundamentals — 16 weeks, ৳50,000. The beauty-track equivalent of Classic Barbering: skincare, makeup basics, hairstyling, client services. Choose this to enter beauty professionally from zero.
Hair Styling & Colouring — 8 weeks, ৳32,000. Colour theory, chemical treatments, precision cutting. Choose this as a working beautician's revenue upgrade — colour clients rebook every 6–8 weeks like clockwork.
Bridal & Editorial Makeup — 5 weeks, ৳28,000. Bridal design, editorial technique, photo finishing, live portfolio shoot. Choose this for wedding-season income and a portfolio that books.
All fees kit-included, all taught by working professionals, all capped at 12 seats. Start dates live on the enrollment page.
Alumni outcomes: where graduates land
Typical graduate paths from our chairs (patterns, not promises):
- Shop employment (~50%): junior-to-experienced chairs across Dhaka within weeks of graduating, armed with certificate plus photo portfolio. Starting ৳15,000–25,000, rising fast with fade skills.
- Freelance/home service (~25%): bridal and beauty graduates especially — lower overhead, flexible hours, Instagram-driven bookings. Top freelancers out-earn shop chairs by year two.
- Shop ownership or chair rental (~15%): usually 18–36 months out, often starting as a rented chair in an existing shop — the low-risk ownership trial.
- Specialization and teaching (~10%): advanced courses, competition work, assistant instructing. The craft's long game.
Common thread across all four: the graduates who photographed everything, rebooked aggressively, and kept learning after graduation. The certificate opens the door; habits walk through it.
Your academy visit: printable 30-minute scorecard
Bring this. Score 1 point per yes:
Teaching (4 pts): Every student holding tools? Instructor correcting individuals? Demo-then-do cycles visible? Beginners and advanced taught at appropriate levels? Facilities (3 pts): Real clients or plentiful mannequins? Tools disinfected between uses? Clean floors, ventilated space? Transparency (3 pts): Kit contents itemized? Batch size stated as a number? Refund policy in writing? 8+ = enroll. 6–7 = negotiate answers first. Below 6 = walk away.
Use it on us in Banasree — we keep the scorecard honest because we know our score.
The enrollment process, step by step
No surprises, exactly what happens:
- Sign up on the site (email verification required — check spam folders).
- Browse open intakes — program, day/evening cohort, start date, seats left shown live.
- Apply with phone number and a line about experience (optional) and how you heard of us.
- Pay offline — bKash or cash at the academy in Banasree. Your seat holds on payment.
- Confirmation — application moves pending → approved; check your dashboard for status and the status-change log.
- Day one — kit issue, tour, fundamentals. Bring notebook and humility.
Total wall-clock from signup to chair: as fast as one visit, if seats remain. Fall cohort seats are capped at 12 per intake — when an intake shows few seats left, it means exactly that.
After enrollment: winning the first month
Enrolled? Maximize it:
- Attend everything. The 95%+ attendance rule is the whole game; each session builds on muscle memory from the last.
- Practice 30 minutes daily at a home station (mannequin + cheap clipper + mirrors — see our career guide setup).
- Film your hands. Phone tripod, overhead angle, review weekly. You will spot flaws instructors already mentioned — that is when correction sticks.
- Ask "stupid" questions early. Week-1 questions are cheap; month-3 gaps are expensive. Instructors respect curiosity, not silence.
- Befriend batchmates. They become your referral network, practice models, and future shop contacts. Cohorts bond for careers.
One month of this and the clippers stop feeling foreign. Three months and you are employable. Fourteen weeks and certified. The only variable is starting — Fall cohort applications are open.
Beauty track chooser: which program fits you?
Not everyone belongs in barbering — the beauty track is equally professional:
- Start here if brand new to beauty: Cosmetology Fundamentals (16 weeks, ৳50,000) — skincare, makeup basics, hairstyling, client services. The beauty equivalent of Classic Barbering.
- Add revenue depth: Hair Styling & Colouring (8 weeks, ৳32,000) — colour clients rebook every 6–8 weeks, the most reliable recurring revenue in beauty.
- Chase peak-season income: Bridal & Editorial Makeup (5 weeks, ৳28,000) — wedding-season earnings plus a portfolio that books year-round.
Crossover students (barbering + beauty) are rare and valuable — full wedding-party service, salon versatility, owner-track skills. If undecided, visit and try both chairs before choosing; aptitude shows fast under instruction.
Getting here: location and transport guide
We are in Banasree, Rampura, Dhaka — reachable from most of the city:
- From Uttara/Airport: ~45–60 min by bus/CNG depending on traffic; consider evening cohorts if commuting daily.
- From Mirpur: ~30–45 min; direct rickshaw/bus routes via Rampura.
- From Dhanmondi/Gulshan/Banani: ~25–40 min; easiest commute corridor.
- From Old Dhaka/Narayanganj: ~45–75 min; day cohort usually suits better than evening return trips.
- Nearby students (Banasree, Aftabnagar, Rampura, Badda): walking/short rickshaw distance — a genuine daily-practice advantage.
Visit once before enrolling (observe a class per the scorecard), then commute-test your actual cohort timing in real traffic. A sustainable commute protects the 95%-attendance rule that training success depends on. Live map and directions are on the homepage; phone 01337-229944 if lost.
What to bring on day one
- Notebook and pen (technique notes compound; phone photos supplement, never replace, written notes).
- Your kit is issued at the academy — do not buy tools beforehand (beginners reliably buy wrong).
- Wear comfortable closed shoes (long standing days) and tie back long hair.
- Bring your questions list — week-one curiosity is the cheapest learning you will ever get.
- Family welcome at drop-off; the tour calms nerves (yours and theirs).
Understanding cohorts and seat counts
How intakes work, plainly:
- Each intake = one program + day/evening cohort + start date + seat cap (default 12).
- Seats left on the enrollment page is live data — pending, reviewing, and approved applications hold seats; waitlisted and rejected do not.
- When an intake fills, apply for the next start date rather than waiting — cohorts run continuously and early application secures placement.
- Transfers between day/evening are possible before start dates if seats exist; ask, do not just stop attending.
- Closed intakes (past dates or admin-closed) disappear from the form automatically.
Twelve seats is a teaching constraint, not marketing: beyond it, instructors cannot correct every student's hands daily. Small batches are the product.
After the visit: deciding within 48 hours
Do not let academy decisions rot. Post-visit protocol:
- Score the scorecard the same evening while impressions are fresh.
- Compare total true costs (tuition + kit status + transport for 4 months) across your top two — decide on numbers.
- Check the next intake date — a 3-week wait beats a 3-month delay; momentum matters more than perfect timing.
- Talk money at home once, with the ROI sheet from our fees guide. One serious conversation beats weeks of hinting.
- Apply and pay the seat hold. Pending applications do not hold seats indefinitely — payment confirms.
If Unicorn scores 8+ and the numbers work, the Fall cohort is the current window. If we do not win your scorecard, tell us why on your way out — the feedback makes the academy better for the next visitor. Either way, you leave with a professional framework for judging any training investment in this city.
A final word: the cost of waiting
Every month of deliberation is a month without skill compounding. The barbers earning ৳60,000+ today started as nervous beginners about two years ago — the difference is simply that they started. Training windows align with hiring seasons, seats are capped at 12, and the only bad time to begin was last year. Visit, score the card, run the numbers, and decide within 48 hours. Your future chair is waiting in Banasree.
